RACHEL W. MARTINEZ
DOCTOR OF ACUPUNCTURE
As a doctor of acupuncture, Rachel partners with her patients to achieve harmony and health of the mind, body, and spirit - using acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and other modalities to treat acute and chronic symptoms and achieve global health. Rachel’s patients often feel relief at their first appointment - enjoying a deepening of the breath, clear eyes, and a sense of settling into their body. Throughout the full course of treatment, she and her patients work together to make space, in the body and in life, for the lasting healing that comes with rest and recovery.
Rachel is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) after graduating from the New England School of Acupuncture, now part of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) in Worcester, MA, where she trained in Chinese, Japanese, and Orthopedic acupuncture. As an intern she treated patients at Boston Medical Center, UMass Memorial and Cambridge Health Alliance’s Malden Family Health Center. Under the supervision of Michelle Gellis, one of the few Acupuncturists certified to teach Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture on a national level, Rachel is trained and certified in facial rejuvenation acupuncture. Using a combination of systemic body points and local facial points, along with facial cupping and gua sha, facial rejuvenation acupuncture can be used to naturally and effectively mimic cosmetic facial enhancements or treat neuromuscular conditions of the face, such as bell's palsy, TMJ and others. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture works by releasing excess muscular tension, which causes wrinkles, invigorating weakened musculature which leads to sagging, and naturally stimulating the local production of collagen and elastin. Rachel was drawn to acupuncture as she trained to become a first-degree black belt in Aikido, a traditional Japanese martial art. Not surprisingly, there were aches and pains along the way which she was treated successfully with acupuncture and chiropractic. Later, acupuncture kept her healthy during two pregnancies. As a result, she found herself continuously referring her friends and family to similar courses of treatment. Feeling called, Rachel left a successful real estate career to attend MCPHS. She sees this career change as an aligning of her upbringing, being the daughter of a chiropractor, her passion for health, and her training in Aikido and Zen. Becoming a healer honors her family’s legacy and is a confluence of her own life’s journey. Today, Rachel still trains in Aikido and Zen meditation and lives in Cranston, RI with her husband, two children, and pup Bucky. |

heather callananoffice managerHeather was born in Kansas but raised in New England. She is the mom of two children with special healthcare needs. Her son Ian had achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism. He also had hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain.) Sadly Ian passed unexpectedly in August, 2018. Grace, her daughter has EVA (enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome) which is a genetic and progressive hearing loss.
Heather along with our Reiki Master, Bridget have invested time in learning ASL (American Sign Language) together. Before becoming a mother, Heather had a foot injury that resulted in nerve damage and RSD. After exhausting all other modalities, she tried acupuncture. To this day she swears that her ability to walk was saved by her intensive treatments. Heather studied massage therapy graduating on the Dean’s list, and is Reiki level 2 certified. She has written a children’s book to help others understand her son’s condition and celebrate differences. Heather will greet you with a smile and often a compliment, or joke when you visit the office. She is maternal by nature and wants to extend her warmth and kindness to all that enter through our door. |
